Abacus joins forces with Arlo’s Adventure to aid Manx families

Abacus has pledged its support to Arlo’s Adventure, a charity dedicated to assisting Isle of Man families.

Founded by Sarah Owen in memory of her son, Arlo’s Adventure has two primary areas of focus. It helps Manx residents cover the cost of transport and accommodation for family members visiting a loved one receiving hospital treatment and provides support for leisure activities during this time. The group also raises awareness of the impact of losing a child or experiencing pregnancy loss, offering emotional and practical support to bereaved families, with a particular focus on the siblings of the lost child.

Sarah said: “Thank you so much to Abacus for choosing us. Our work would not be possible without the generosity of the Manx community, and for that, we are eternally grateful.”

At Abacus, the Corporate and Social Responsibility Committee compiles a shortlist of worthwhile causes before staff vote on which to support. The chosen charity then benefits from a 12-month fundraising campaign featuring internal events such as an Easter cake sale and raffle. A voluntary staff salary deduction scheme, matched by the company, also helps boost contributions.

Kevin Loundes, Managing Director of Abacus, said: “The team champions Isle of Man charities that aim to improve quality of life. In 2024, Arlo’s Adventure directly supported more than 30 Isle of Man-based families, spending nearly £15,000 on transport, accommodation, food, and activities. This was in addition to neonatal support packs distributed at Noble’s Hospital and funding for four recliner chairs at the neonatal unit. We hope our contribution this year will help them continue their important work.”
