Abacus has pledged to support Looky’s Aid and its work helping underprivileged, ill and disabled young people on the Isle of Man.
Following his sudden death in September 2023 from meningitis, the family of Lucas “Looky” Martin wanted to nurture his positive legacy. Inspired by his core values of Love, Optimism, Ambition, Determination and Selflessness the charity aims to create LOADS of opportunities to share these ideals with other young people.
Donations to Looky’s Aid will help provide opportunities for growth, learning and enjoyment, in line with Lucas’ principles and include support through scholarships, events and healthcare assistance.
Lucas’ Dad, Brett Martin said: “Lucas was a force of nature. He brought enthusiasm and determination to everything he did, as well as positivity and inspiration to everyone he met. His moral compass was set to true north, and it would be a fitting legacy if his charity sets other young people on that same course.”
A number of fundraising initiatives are currently underway. Matthew Colley, a childhood friend of Lucas, will be taking part in the Manchester Marathon on April 14 and donations can be made through his JustGiving page HERE. Family friend, Grace Carrick will be taking on the London Marathon on April 21 and has also set up a JustGiving page HERE and Looky’s former school, King William’s College, will be hosting a triathlon for its fourth formers on May 6.
Abacus has a Corporate and Social Responsibility Committee that compiles a short list of worthwhile causes before asking staff to vote for which to support. This is followed by a 12-month campaign of internal fundraising activities which is boosted by a voluntary staff salary deduction scheme, which is matched by the company.
